Inkfest at Cairns Festival
15 April to 2 Sep 2012 INKMASTERS CAIRNS INC presents

Inkfest, a festival of arts in the print media, a new and innovative addition to Cairns Festival.
Inkfest showcases this fascinating and diverse form of art. Some of Australia's top artists will be here as artists in residence, and delivering workshops. Visitors can make an original print in the studio of a local artist, and kids can learn new art skills while creating the Kid's Longest Print at Muddy's Playground.
Inkfest exhibitions will show the best of our local print media artists alongside Australia's most celebrated printmakers. So come up and see our etchings (and linocuts, lithographs, silkscreens, digitals, woodcuts, monoprints, aquatints, mezzotints.....)
Programme
Inkfest three prominent Australian printmakers will be Artists-in-Residence for 10 days and each deliver a 3-day workshop:

Michael Kempson etching (artists' book - theme Cairns Bestiary), 23/25 Jun (8.30am-4pm)
Rew Hanks reduction linocut, 30 Jun/2 Jul, (8.30am-4pm)
Inkfest Two Inkmasters Print Exhibitions at the Tanks Art Centre and Canopy Artspace, 27 Jul - 22 Aug.
Work from Artists-in-Residence, prints from the workshops, invited artists from around Australia, and Inkmaster Cairns artists. Entry form may be completed and submitted online or you can print out and snail mail. Please pass the form on to other printmakers. Inkmasters_Entry_Form.docx Indigenous exhibition at Canopy Artspace will show prints from the workshops and other Indigenous Inkmasters works.
Inkfest Public lecture by Roger Butler AM, Senior Curator of Australian Prints, Drawings and Illustrated Books at National Gallery of Australia at 5pm in the exhibition space at Tank 4, and he will also speak at the exhibition launch at 6pm.
During his years at the National Gallery Roger Butler has established the foremost collection of prints, posters and book arts of the Australasian region. The collection now numbers over 37,000 prints from Australia (including Aboriginal Australia), Aotearoa New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands. The Drawing collection now holds over 30,000 works, including watercolours and artists sketchbook
Inkfest Kids Longest Print - 18/19, 25/26 Aug - A great children's print project created at Muddy's Playground on the Esplanade. The finished print will be shown at Carnival on Collins 2 Sep. Materials and Inkfest banner provided by Inkfest Programme Partner Inspirations Paint.
Inkfest "Pull a Print" Workshop Bus Tours of printmaking studios, commercial and private. Tickets at Ticketlink$30. Get on board, it is designed for those who would like to find out more about original prints and meet the people who make them. Pull a print with the artists and take it home. 22 Aug.
Inkfest Print Projections. See them in the CBD throughout Cairns Festival 17 Aug-2 Sep. New films and photos about printmaking in North Queensland. Spot your local printmaker.

A joyous visual celebration of the unique natural heritage of Far North Queensland. The exhibition showcases a selection of enchanting illustrations by ten highly acclaimed Australian artist/illustrators, including Inkmasters Anna Eglitis and Arone Meeks.

Nest is an experimental series of sculptural works, marking Rose Rigley's first exhibition as a solo artist.

Perc Tucker Gallery Townsville
An exhibition of 12 Inkmaster artists which includes a collectors portfolio of 12 prints showcasing the quality of Cairns printmakers at their very best. This standout collection includes etching, lithography, woodcut, archival pigment, silkscreen, collograph and linocut. The exhibition was profiled at Impact7 in Melbourne in Sept showed at Cairns Regional Gallery Dec 11-Feb 12, Tablelands Regional Gallery 9 Mar -1 April, and will travel to Thailand later this year.

Inkmasters Cairns Inc was founded in 2011 to further the interests of its members and the discipline of printmaking, through mounting regular exhibitions and participating in national and international print exchanges. Cairns is emerging as a printmaking centre of excellence and local members include both mainstream and indigenous printmakers.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership is open to printmakers and print lovers, collectors and supporters everywhere. Web only (associate) members have access to the webpage. Full (financial) membership offers all the benefits below:
